Daimler Truck Axles North America (DTA), LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Daimler AG supplying front and rear axles to Freightliner, Freightliner Custom Chassis, Thomas Built Bus, Sterling and Western Star. Bridging American and European technology, DTA is developing, producing and supplying innovative axle systems for the commercial truck market.

Headquartered in Detroit, Michigan we are looking for one Engineering intern to support our Axles and Transmissions team at our regional office in Portland, Oregon. We offer the opportunity to get in contact with American business leaders and get to know the American business culture.

We require a minimum stay of 6 and up to 12 months, starting March 2008. During the internship the intern will have the opportunity to gain an insight into business practices and industry specific knowledge. Furthermore, the intern will be assigned specific independent tasks, as well as working closely together with the other team members.

Your Tasks:

Project Support
This includes information gathering and evaluating information and compilation of reports and presentations within a multi disciplinary team including Engineering, Testing, Prototyping, and Purchasing

Prototype Builds
Coordinate and follow up prototype builds. This includes order process of prototype parts, inventory, shipping/receiving of prototype parts, prototype part tracking, cost tracking as well as build documentation i.e. work instructions, build sheets, etc.

Application Approval Guidelines
Support to public/update application approval guidelines for front, rear and tandem axles.
Support to public application approval guidelines for Latin and South America

Miscellaneous
Understanding of GD&T, Stack Up's, Preparation of Drawings 2D, Packaging Studies 3D


Your profile:

Ideally you are studying mechanical engineering and have gained first experiences in the automotive industry.
You are proficient in the use of all standard office software (MS Excel/ PowerPoint/ Word; Lotus Notes is a plus) particularly in data mining with MS Excel, experienced with Pivot-Tables and Excel functions. VBA macro programming is a plus.
CAD software, Catia V4/Catia V5 (preferred)
MS Project and SAP experience will be a plus
You have very good analytical, organizational and project management skills.
You are able to systematically approach a new subject and independently develop a recommended course of action.
You have strong written and verbal English communication skills
You are professional and mature team player with very good social skills.
You have a Committed and creative personality showing initiative within assignments
