A nonprofit organization that promotes leadership development for youth is looking for an Accounting Intern. The Accounting Intern will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer in maintaining the finances of the organization.

Responsibilities include recording financial transactions, generating journal entries, and producing financial reports. This position requires basic knowledge of accounting principles, analytical skills, ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines, precision and attention to detail, and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate is able to contribute to a young and dynamic organization.

Duties & Responsibilities
Your work will be divided into weekly and bi-weekly projects.

• Forward all checks and supporting documentation to the Financial Officer for signature and final review
• Assign accounting codes for all invoices
• Record manual and void checks into the system
• Input financial data into accounting software
• Maintain vendor master report to reflect accurate and up-to-date information
• Prepare monthly financial reports with notes for the CFO and Executive Board
• Record deposits in an online accounting system
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
• Maintain fiscal department files
• Reconcile accounts
• Research and maintain files on current and possible funders
• Track changes in funders’ priorities, initiatives and issues
• Maintain and update donor database
• Assist Financial Officer with preparation of the annual budget
• Attend meeting with Board of Directors or Chief Financial Officer at least once per month

Qualifications

§ Undergraduate sophomores, juniors, or seniors or graduate students
§ Proficient in Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer
§ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
§ Great with detail and numbers
§ Independent, hardworking, organized, team player
§ Interest in nonprofit accounting/management preferred but not required
§ Intuit Quickbooks software experience preferred but not required
§ Accounting/bookkeeping & fundraising experience preferred but not required

Intern will work independently on assigned projects, report to supervisor, and attend a weekly meeting. This is unpaid internship. This internship has flexible schedule.
