Human Resources Assistant

This is an ideal opportunity providing a chance for a young fit undergraduate to learn a whole spectrum of human resources Expatriate practises / recruitment environment to assist the HR Manager and the Regional Office in the following areas:

• Using the Internet and search databases for suitable candidates
• Identifying problems with employment references and seeking to resolve them in an efficient manner
• Keeping the HR Manager and various senior management informed of each job applicant’s progress and highlighting any concerns regarding their visa applications/flight schedules/employment references
• Updating and improvement of all Job Descriptions when and where necessary
• Maintaining new employee records for expatriates and updating master database
• Control of leave rotas for all Region 1 entities (approximately 200 Expats)
• Dealing with queries regarding medical claims of expatriate employees and following the process of the claim with the medical insurance company and in liaison with our London Office HR Manager
• Liaising with our Government & Public Affairs Department with regards to administrative requirements of expatriate employees
• Preparing the Employment Pack for new employees including contracts of employment
• Supplying up-to-date reports on employees when required, including National / Expatriate Labour Returns and analysis
• Maintain Attendance Returns / Timesheets for Management at the end of each month
• Assist the HR Manager with the design and implementation of Training & Development initiatives
• Assisting the HR Manager with the design and implementation of Region 1’s social initiatives
• Assisting the HR Manager with the design and/or review of all Human Resources Procedures
• Keeping abreast with HR developments
• Assisting with Human Resources projects as and when required e.g. bi-annual Appraisals
• Improve existing database
• Preparation and distribution of correspondence to expatriate employees
• Searching the Internet for Friday Funnies
• Hours of work 52 per week.

Essential requirements:

• Excellent spoken and written English
• Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
• Flexible and disciplined
• Potential Management skills
• A clear and confident telephone manner
• A resilient character with a positive “can-do” attitude
• The ability to learn fast, retain detailed information and think on your own
• Computer literate with MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Internet Explorer

Desirable attributes:

• Italian, Spanish, Serbo-Croat or other Eastern European language skills will be major advantages
• Punctuality and enthusiasm
• Previous experience in a similar role or environment

• Based in the heart of the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry, their secure camp is situated towards the outskirts of Port Harcourt. It has all the main facilities such as two swimming pools, gym, 4 hole golf course, squash court, two tennis courts, basketball court etc.
• The work environment is a modern, air-conditioned office block

Location:

• Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers state and port town in southern Nigeria. It lies along the Bonny River (an eastern tributary of the Niger), 41 miles (66 km) upstream from the Gulf of Guinea. Founded in 1912 in an area traditionally inhabited by the Ijaw people, it is a port, named for Lewis Harcourt - the colonial secretary.
• Port Harcourt has long been an important merchant port and is today the centre of Nigeria’s oil industry. Its exports include petroleum, coal, tin, palm products, cocoa, and groundnuts. Among the industries of the area are timber processing, car manufacturing, food and tobacco processing, and the manufacture of rubber, glass, metal, and paper products, cement, petroleum products, paint, enamelware, bicycles, furniture, and soap.

Remuneration details:

• A monthly Local Allowance equivalent to £600 paid in Naira is payable in advance for subsistence needs.
• Accommodation, in the Company’s secure camp, is provided free of charge. This remuneration package is not negotiable under ANY circumstances.
