Communications Assistant

This placement opportunity provides a unique experience working for the largest international campaign to end men’s violence against women, campaigning with men and young people. Reporting to the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees, tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking Media Outreach
• Liaising with major advertising agencies
• Maintaining our widely read monthly newsletter
• Planning special events locally, nationally and internationally
• Maintaining relationships with partner organisations
• Supporting the planning and co-ordination of specific campaigns
• Website Development
• Developing innovative digital communication programmes
• Developing rapid response unit for media stories
• Assisting with fundraising applications
• Hours of work 35 per week, flexible.

Essential requirements:

• Fluent or excellent English
• Good PC Skills
• Excellent telephone manner
• Team working
• An ability to develop effective systems
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated
• Flexibility
• Commitment

Desirable attributes:

• Interest in social networking sites Facebook, MySpace, Second Life
• Awareness of the issues around Social Marketing
• Interest in UK politics
• Previous experience in a similar role or environment

Company activity:

The largest international campaign to end men’s violence against women. The organisation has a very high public profile. In 2007 they were invited to 10 Downing Street twice for meetings, and also a number of meetings with Ministers and /or Shadow Ministers. In 2007 they worked with 10 Premier League Football clubs to develop the campaign. In 2008/9 they expect to be even more effective in developing their message across the UK and the rest of Europe. They have recently appointed a Sports Marketing Director and in 2008 expect to work with over 60 professional sports teams in getting their message across, as well as working with media personalities, local authorities, and giving many presentations to a huge range of outside organisations. In November 2008 Britain’s largest Advertising Agency is working with the Campaign on a pro-bono basis to develop some new campaign materials. Turnover is doubling each year, but the organisation relies very heavily on goodwill to pursue its aims and objectives.
They have links with associated campaigns in other countries, both in Europe and further afield and co-operate closely with them.

Location:

Hebden Bridge is a delightful market town in West Yorkshire, surrounded by great countryside. It was named the most characterful shopping centre in the UK by The Times. A feature in the April issue of highlife, the British Airways flight magazine, has provoked another flurry of regional and national media attention on Hebden Bridge. According to this magazine, it is the fourth most "funky" town in the world. !!

Remuneration details:

A training allowance of £600 a month will be provided to assist with accommodation and subsistence costs. The organisation will be able to help with accommodation, certainly for the first few days while you find somewhere permanent.

This remuneration package is not negotiable under ANY circumstances.
