Classroom Assistant

This is an ideal and practical placement opportunity for student who is training to be a teacher or to work in childcare. The successful candidates will be involved in all activities at this Preparatory School - basic classroom assistance type duties in the mornings; back-up administrative work for teachers; assisting with sports and games in the afternoons; involvement with school functions and productions. Reporting to the Deputy Head and Headmaster, tasks and responsibilities include the following:

* To assist teachers within the classroom
* To support staff with administrative duties e.g. photocopying and lesson preparation, record keeping, etc.
* Occasional Staff cover for lessons (class work supplied).
* Assisting with Games lessons – sports, PE and swimming.
* Assisting with school productions and plays, and with music concerts.
* Accompanying teachers on school trips (day and/or residential).
* Break supervision duties.
* Assisting with displays around the School.
* Other duties required by the Headmaster.
* Working with children aged 2 to 13 years
* Hours of work approx. 45 per week

Essential requirements:

* Very good spoken & written English
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Good communication skills
* Cheerful disposition
* Lively, energetic personality
* Like children and working with children
* Team player
* Interest/ability in sports

Desirable attributes:

* French or another European language e.g. Spanish
* Any IT skills beneficial
* Previous experience in a similar role or environment will help though not essential.

* Founded in 1933, the School is a thriving independent preparatory day school for boys and girls aged 2 to 13 years. It has Nursery and Transition classes (ages 2-5), a Pre-Preparatory Department (ages 5-7) and the Preparatory, or Senior, School (ages 7-13).
* It has many impressive facilities including a large Sports Hall, indoor Swimming Pool, two purpose-built Science Laboratories, all-weather pitches, courts and wickets, libraries and two IT suites. The School also has a fully equipped sick bay, run by qualified nursing staff.
* Their aim is to develop the potential of each and every child, with all pupils benefiting from small classes and caring and highly qualified staff. Many pupils have achieved great success in the areas of art, music, drama and sport.

Location:

* The School is located in Tadworth, Surrey, on the edge of Epsom Downs ( famous as the Derby racecourse) Set in 11 acres of parkland
* Within 20 miles of central London. 1 mile nearest main-line station (direct line to London – 30 mins).
* Good bus route.

Remuneration details:

* The School will provide and pay for accommodation.
* A training allowance of £250 per month will be provided to assist with subsistence costs. Main meal at lunchtime provided free of charge. This remuneration package is not negotiable under ANY circumstances.
