Scientific Market Researcher

Background:
The company has a number of German customers but the German market place represents the biggest in Europe in their field. They would therefore like to gain significant growth in the number and value of their German customer base.

Job Description:
This position includes some administrative duties but mainly represents an exciting opportunity for a German speaker with a biological science background to take the lead role in exploring and expanding the company’s position in the German marketplace. The primary objective for the candidate will be to expand the company’s sales in Germany and to report back to the board of directors on the feasibility of further expansion in to Germany. The role would also include some basic administrative duties.

There is huge scope for a candidate with initiative to take ownership of this directive and to make a significant contribution to our company. For anyone with a career in business, sales or marketing in mind this will be an unprecedented opportunity to gain invaluable experience and expertise in a huge range of business related activity

Responsibilities will include:

• Basic administrative duties
• Building a database of German contacts
• Market research amongst said contact database.
• Design, scripting and translation of marketing material in German.
• Follow up of market research with direct mail, email and telephone marketing.
• Writing a report on the German marketplace for the directors of the company.
• Translation of corporate website

Essential requirements:

• Fluent German, with good English
• Biological science or biochemistry background
• Initiative. Candidate will be encouraged to design and execute their own daily tasks
• Ability to learn quickly

Desirable attributes:

• Interest in a career in business, sales or marketing
• Previous knowledge/experience of real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
• Telesales experience
• Perfect student would now be doing an MBA (or equivalent) after a biological science degree

Company activity:

The company is involved in the design, manufacture sale of real-time PCR kits and reagents. Real-time PCR is a technology for the detection of DNA and is commonly used in research and diagnostic laboratories all over the world. Although it sounds daunting it is easy to understand! Their customers are typically academic researchers with a particular gene that they are interested in detecting/measuring. The company designs, manufactures and optimises a kit specifically for the customer’s gene of interest.

They also supply a range of consumables to use along side the bespoke kits

Location:

The company’s offices are based in Southampton. Southampton, the UK home of ocean sailing, is a vibrant and fast growing city with all of the modern attractions one would expect from a cosmopolitan 21st century UK city. In addition, nearby attractions include the historic city of Winchester, The New Forest National Park, The Isle of Wight, Stonehenge, and the Portsmouth historic dockyard, whilst all of the sites and sounds of London are only an hour’s train ride away.

Remuneration details:

A training allowance of £750 a month will be provided to assist with accommodation and subsistence costs. There is also the opportunity to earn bonuses depending on certain achievements.

NB: This remuneration package is not negotiable under ANY circumstances.
