Software Developer

An interesting placement opportunity to work in a company that specialises in bespoke software solutions for the Financial Industry and develops and sells a Version Control/SCM tool for Software Developers. Reporting to the Managing Director, day to day responsibilities will be in the areas of:

• Developing and maintaining the Version Control/SCM tool
• Some occasional product testing.
• Develop integrations between this product and third party products e.g. Eclipse, CruiseControl, Ant, NAnt etc.
• This will involve creating, testing and maintaining mostly new code in either Java or C# as required.
• Hours of work will 35 per week, Mon – Fri.

Essential requirements:

• Fluent spoken & written English
• 12 months coding experience with Java or C#/.Net
• Good communication skills
• Team player
• Able to work independently as required
• Self starter

Desirable attributes:

• Knowledge of Eclipse IDE (Eclipse plugin experience ideally)
• C Coding
• Java/.Net builds tools such as Ant/NAnt
• Experience in a similar role or environment will useful.

• The Company is involved in two main areas :-
• They develop bespoke software solutions for the Financial Industry. This has been their main activity for the last ten years.
• They also develop and sell a Version Control/SCM tool for Software Developers. This lightweight Software Configuration Management (SCM) solution gives the power to make software development fast and flexible. It is available for Windows, Linux, Solaris and Mac OS X, offering native Visual Studio integration and an intuitive and easy to use cross-platform GUI. This is the product the chosen student will be asked to work on.

Location:

• Based in Macclesfield, Cheshire in the UK. Macclesfield is a medium sized town in the North West of England (approximately 24 Kms South of Manchester and about 30 minutes by train).
• The town offers an excellent range of local amenities and facilities with major city leisure and cultural resources easily accessible
• Macclesfield is one of the most prosperous parts of the UK with low unemployment, a thriving economy and a well educated workforce. Much of the surrounding area is rural dotted with attractive villages located on the Cheshire Plain and the undulating hills of the Peak District National Park. This attractive setting, quality workforce, coupled with good communications, including main line services to London, Manchester International Airport and the motorway network has attracted many leading national and international companies to locate their headquarters in the area.

Remuneration details:

• A training allowance of £600 per month will be provided to assist with accommodation and subsistence costs.

This remuneration package is not negotiable under ANY circumstances.
