Internship laser material processing R&D
During the last years new automated laser metal forming processes have been developed at the ALSTOM Technology Center Switzerland. A particular emphasis has been put on Laser Metal Forming (LMF). LMF allows to build up solid material by laser fusion of powder onto a surface. The combination of state of the art high power laser technology with robotics and offline programming enables new possibilities in the area of laser manufacturing and repair.
The goal of our team is the development of innovative and reliable processes, in order to continuously expand ALSTOM’s application portfolio for laser material processing of gas turbine components.
We are looking for a motivated student with a background in laser technology, process automation, mechatronics or material science. Our work is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach (material science, physics, laser technology, programming) in a professional industrial environment. It is an ideal opportunity to develop and improve skills in industrial R&D and quality control.
The ALSTOM Technology Center Switzerland is located at ALSTOM’s main Swiss manufacturing site Birr, about 30km from Zurich. Students from all over the world contribute here to the development of tomorrow's technologies.
Our candidate should have basic knowledge in one or more of the following:
· laser material processing
· process control / automation
· material science (especially high temperature Ni-superalloys)
· LabView / robot programming
Most important, however, is a strong interest in experimental R&D work and experimental skills. We expect you to be a very good and reliable team player with an open mind and a quality focused approach.
